Day 9 - Section 7

Last night we had an awesome camp fire and an incredible meal - it was pumpkin carbonara and was so yummy!

When we went to bed we were warned that there was as a good chance it may rain. Sure enough at 2.30 am the rains come down.  It was funny to see everyone (except Reddie who was dead to the world and didn't move) sit up in bed, turn on their headlamps and throw their tarp over their bags and then turn their head lamps off and snuggle back down in our swags - nobody spoke, but it was like a well oiled machine.

This morning we were up before light again but it was so nice not to have to pack up the camp site as we will be camping here for 3 nights.

We headed out and we were once again treated to some absolutely incredible views. It was a shorter day today and thankfully a little cooler.

We jumped into the troopies and were driven back to Ellery Creek where we started another day of trekking. Today we trekked beside the dolomite ridges to Serpentine Gorge.

We were on the track for about 5.5 hours today and covered off over 25,000 steps and 14 kms.

Today F Troop were making up games as they trekked along and the 6 Pack could hear our laughter from up in front. We have talked about every subject and solved all the problems of the world - anything to pass the time.

Ali is reading a book called "Tiny Prisoners" and each night reads a chapter so she can fill us in on what is happening while we are walking - it's like our very own book club.

Rach woke up through the night with a vomiting bug so stayed in camp today but is feeling heaps better now.

Reddie has developed blisters under the actual nails on her big toes.  Meeks has the flu and is constantly coughing.   Everyone has something going on but are all so committed.

At the end of our Trek today we then hiked to the top of Serpentine Gauge Lookout. It was a steep climb up but the view was unbelievable!   Then when we climbed down we walked up along the river bank to a sacred waterhole called Serpentine Gorge waterhole.   We all sat in silence and enjoyed the views and the serenity

Comment of the day from Annie, our Guide:

"If you guys had swam with the dead fish at Ellery Creek yesterday, you would smell better than you do at the moment". I guess 9 days without a shower will do that to you (ha ha) !

We are about to have our dinner now which apparently is Chicken Stir Fry - yummy!

Until tomorrow

Donna.
