Day 13 Section 11 Part 1

When the howl went up this morning to get up, it seemed everyone was a little slower moving. It took our guides 3 calls to get us all awake.

We had our Breaky and then started Day 13 of trekking. We set off along the Finke River for our 15 km trek.  Mt Sonder was constantly in our view today and we are all anxious and a little excited to know in two days time that will be our biggest climb yet - all the way to the top of Mt Sonder for sunrise.

There were lots of wildflowers to see along the track today.    A steep climb to get to the top of a lookout toyday for Lunch just seemed to go on and on but we finally made it and the views were worth it.

From up here Emma face-timed her school and had a chat to the kids. We all waved at them and they all frantically waved back.    They were horrified to hear that Miss McCabe had not had a shower for 13 days and they said she would be very smelly!

We then threw our packs back on and started the descent from the lookout.

Things were a little quieter on the track today as everyone is definately getting wearier as the days go on.

The last few kilometres seemed to take ages to end but we finally made it.

When we got into camp we all had a drink and some nibbles and then our guides asked if anyone would like to go for a swim in the Finke River which is the oldest river in the world. At first there wasn't much interest but then several decided that they were going to brave it - the guides had warned us it would be refreshing but freezing.

The rest of us just had a little "bird bath" and rest at camp.

We are excited that tonight we are having a BBQ for dinner and we are all very much looking forward to that - the food has been fantastic !

Mieke is such a trooper suffering with the flu, sinus infection and migraines and yet still walking every day.

Jodi and Ellen are walking with their sore knees too. Everyone is just doing such an incredible job of taking care of each other and they are all incredibly positive people to be around.  Constantly on the track the call goes out "it's for the children".

Tomorrow we do Part 2 of Section 11 so it will no doubt be another early night again.

We have LOVED getting the comments and messages of support from everyone and it has truly kept everyone's spirits up. WE ARE SO EXCITED when we get a bit of service on the top of a hill and screenshot the messages to read out that night.

If anyone is having trouble leaving a message on the blog and you have an iPhone please iMessage to my phone on 0407 291755 and I will get them that way.

Well that's Day 13 almost knocked over - we can't wait to see all our family and friends very soon.

Until tomorrow,

Donna x
