After a beautiful night under the stars we were awoken at
crack of dawn this morning to start the day before the heat - its over 30
degrees on the track.
It is as another tough day with the sun beating down.
We finally arrived at Ellery Creek for Lunch where we were all hoping for a
swim but unfortunately there was dead fish in the water so we decided not to
risk it but it was as such a gorgeous spot.
We all sat there for a fair while and enjoyed lunch
together. We then jumped in the troupes and travelled to a local camp
site.
We set up our swags, had a bird bath, attended to our feet
and sat around chatting about the day.
The camp fire has now been started and we are waiting for
Kenna to cook another yummy meal -we have been so spoilt with meals, they have
been amazing !
Last night we read out some letters that some of the
families had left in the guest book at our Salamander Bay Respite home .
Everyone got a lot out of hearing their heartfelt messages and what the time
away together had meant to them.
Ellen has had such a sore knee and yet is just soldiering on
/ she has been amazing.
Reddie cries at the end of every day and I am so proud of
her for getting up and going again each day.
Rach is head down and bum up and
going so well despite lots of rashes - she is inspirational.
We are now over half way with day's and kms and I am so
proud of everyone. This is truly an amazing bunch of people and I feel
blessed to be sharing this experience with them.
Today we walked for 6 hours and did 26,000 steps!
Day 8 without a shower means we all have a lovely smell and
really oily hair !
Comment from Meeks: the lure of a waterhole got us
through even if it was unswimmable when we arrived! Jodi and Rid made up
an awesome song about the spinifex !
Until tomorrow,
Donna

Hello Trekkers - It was so good to catch up on your news today and read through your Older Posts. Sounds like you all might be more than a bit smelly now. But hopefully if you all stink; then that's perfectly acceptable.
ReplyDeleteAs the days passed and you had no internet to blog, we were starting to get worried ...and thinking how we could employ a 'low cost, budget mantra in mind' search party. I remembered reading about this guy who attempted to fly 300 miles into the Mojave Desert (in the US) by strapping a bunch of weather balloons to a lawn chair. UNBELIEVABLE! At 16,000 feet, he was spotted by two local pilots, who alerted air traffic controllers about “what appeared to be an unprotected man floating through the sky in a chair”. So I guess it's lucky we didn't need an aerial search!
Good to hear you all seem to be in good spirits. Keep going. There are plenty of people back home who are very proud of you giving up life's comforts and the toll it's taking on your bodies to complete the trek - all in support of CQ kids. THANK YOU!
